Carcerality, Capitalism and Climate Chaos
ClimateInColour Deep Dives
The U.S. prison system needs little introduction. With over 2 million Americans imprisoned, sentenced or not, a population which has multiplied tenfold in the decades between the 1960s and 2000s, it is the largest carceral model in the world, easily exceeding more ‘less democratic or developed’ states.
But how does the Prison-Industrial Complex, a multi-billion dollar industry, contribute to climate chaos and what are the related environmental justice concerns?
Welcome back to the ClimateInColour Deep Dives, bi-weekly in-depth reads covering the intersection of climate justice, climate science and climate technology. In your inbox, every Monday-ish, to start the week right.
